Heavy Duty Coatings

Heavy duty coatings protect metal and concrete surfaces against damage and corrosion under extreme environmental conditions.

Cycloaliphatic polyisocyanates (VESTANAT®) can be used in fast-drying, UV-resistant 2K polyurethane coatings. Aliphatic and cycloaliphatic diamines (VESTAMIN®) are suitable as crosslinkers for epoxy-based heavy duty coatings.

With silicone/epoxy hybrid technology (SILIKOPON® EF), ultra-high solid, economical and environmentally-friendly coatings can be formulated. It is possible to achieve new types of anti-corrosion coatings with a VOC content even lower than 100 g/l. The use of amino silanes as a curing agent results in isocyanate-free coatings with high chemical and abrasion resistance.

AEROSIL® fumed silica is mainly used to control rheological characteristics. It functions as a thixotroping agent and an anti-settling agent and helps to prevent damage from the formation of rust and corrosion. Polydimethylsilane-treated silicas are especially suitable for thixotropic systems.

1K coatings based on thermoplastic acrylic resins (DEGALAN®) can be used for maintenance coatings on ship hulls and other industrial structures. These chlorine-free binders provide perfect weatherability and an improved coverage rate.

Dynasylan® SIVO 140 is a new water-borne binder for heavy duty corrosion-protection binders. Water-borne zinc silicate coatings for shop primers can be formulated with this new product. SIVO 140 addresses the current deficits of water-borne zinc silicate coatings: adhesion of subsequent coatings and low thermal stability.
