Portfolio Expansion in Reactive Hotmelts
The Polyesters & Adhesive Resins Product Line of Evonik Industries will add the DEGALAN® brand to its portfolio of reactive hotmelts.
This means that the product line, in addition to DYNACOLL® and DYNAPOL® S products that are based on polyester chemicals and the Poly-alpha-olefin VESTOPLAST®, will also offer adhesive raw materials made of thermoplastic polyacrylates of the DEGALAN® family.
The new polyacrylate grades of the DEGALAN® brand, which are functionalized with hydroxy and acid groups, enable the production of reactive hotmelts with a long open time and high initial strength for use in large-area laminations and sandwich structures.
“This product portfolio expansion will provide our customers in the adhesives industry with a one-stop source for the entire spectrum of high-quality hotmelt raw materials,” explained Dr. Martin Welp, the head of the product line.
DEGALAN® products currently are used as binders in paints and coatings as well. In addition, they are suited as binders for high-end hot seal lacquers used in the packaging industry.

RESINS
Binders constitute the single-most important ingredient in paint systems. Evonik’s resins and complete binder systems make it the solution-provider for the coatings industry.
Good weathering characteristics and suitability for a broad range of applications are what distinguish thermoplastic methacrylate resins (DEGALAN®) from chlorinated binders. Customers all over the world benefit from Evonik’s leading position in polyester resins (DYNAPOL®) for both hard and flexible coil and can coatings. Specialty resins improve the intermediate adhesion and flow behavior of coatings on critical substrates. They also provide permanent corrosion protection. The silicone-based/silicone-hybrid binders (SILIKOPHEN®, SILIKOFTAL® and SILIKOPON®) constitute a class of their own. They provide resistance against heat, weather, corrosion, chemicals and UV.
