A Unique Range of Fumed Aluminas from Evonik
AEROXIDE® Alu 130 complements the Evonik product range
Evonik Industries’ Inorganic Materials Business Unit now offers its customers a valuable addition to its current range of fumed aluminas: AEROXIDE® Alu 130. The new product will be presented at this year's European Coatings Show (ECS). Like the very well proven AEROXIDE® Alu C, it is used in liquid and powder coatings. AEROXIDE® Alu 130 has a larger surface area and smaller primary particles than AEROXIDE® Alu C, representing an interesting technical alternative to known fumed aluminas.
AEROXIDE® products from Evonik are known to improve the processability, quality, appearance, and performance of powder coatings significantly, and AEROXIDE® Alu C in particular has become a global bestseller. This is thanks largely to its two-fold performance-enhancing effect. First, AEROXIDE® Alu C increases the buildup of positive electrostatic charge during application, thus increasing the transfer rate; second, it reduces static charge buildup in the finished powder coating, which improves the flow properties. Another positive effect is the improved storage stability of powder coatings, particularly with the hydrophobic AEROXIDE® Alu C 805, as a result of reduced moisture uptake.
Fumed aluminas are also used in the coatings of photo paper for inkjet printers, in which application they enhance brilliance of color. Fluorescent lighting systems will also benefit from the properties of AEROXIDE® Alu 130, especially in the phosphor layer.
Additives
A multitude of coatings contain additives in addition to pigments and binders. They play an important role in the development of high-quality coating systems.
TEGO® provides a broad range of additives for all types of liquid coatings and printing inks. AEROSIL® fumed silica is widely used to control the rheology of liquid paints and coatings. It prevents hardsettling in coating systems containing pigments, fillers or matting agents. Adding VESTOSINT® fine powders to coating formulations creates abrasion-resistant, highly elastic textured coatings. The particles act as impact absorbers and prevent the surface from cracking.
